Volunteering= Pure JOY

This last week was overwhelmingly the best and yet hardest week we have had. As soon as my wonderful companion whom I'm working in the project with (JENNA) was able to arrive we were put right to work. We went straight to the community center to find all sorts of activities preparing for the upcoming week of performance. Thier performance and showcase of all the activities done during the school year premieres on JULY 4th (tomorrow) and they are so welcoming here that they wanted us to understand the culture right away. We worked all last week with all the different groups that are working on their activities. We even got to learn how to dance the regional dance named (I think so)
Jarana. It is the cutest thing to see six-year-olds move feet like professional dance tappers. After observing for a couple days we were excited to find out that most of the work here will not be only teaching public health but helping with the necessities of the community. Which for now they are in high demand of some English. And im so excited to do it with one of my best friends Jenna. Who's positives and motivation lights up a whole room. This whole entire week  I was just so happy. It was if leaving Utah and coming here took this burden off me I didn't know I had... and for that, I am so grateful.. 


-- here are some pictures of the cenotes as well. This is highly recommended to visit. The one we went to for the weekend was Homun. It is beautiful. Definitely should be named a wonder of the world.

WOW time does fly!!!! I can't believe I have finally reached the age of 22. Better yet I can't believe I have spent most of my birthdays recently out of the states, in my favorite place of Mexico. Since I was turning a year older. I reflected on the decisions that led me to have such great opportunities such as this one.  My decision to come here was based on the fact that I knew I wanted to take my career choice farther then what I imagined back home. Here we go again... if you're wondering why I named this one love its probably not the same type your thinking. I don't have a crazy summer love story or any crazy idea of what love really is, even though it's my favorite thing to gossip about (aka. listen too).  No, the reason I named this one love, is because I want to remember that exact feeling you feel when you are loved unconditionally. The type of Love nobody can really describe or give hugs and kisses to, the type everyone longs for but takes a long time to find. This type of love can only come through one thing when you lose yourself in helping someone else. This week ended the summer courses we had been teaching the kids for the past two weeks. If you have never been to the Merida, there is one fact I think everyone should know. Although this is Mexico, there is a whole different culture waiting for everyone to catch a glimpse of. In the state of Yucatan most tourist come to see the big pyramid of Chichen Itza. But one hidden secret is that there is a small town called Xhumal. This small town has one the most beautiful pyramids and mayan town anyone could ever step on. They are well kept and untouched by the world and seem to still carry the sounds that Mayans once lived in. While walking through the ruins you begin to imagine what life was like without any of the stuff we now have. You ask yourself how in the world was it that around 25,000 people lived there.
